Korean automaker, Hyundai is readying a wide range of new utility vehicles including mini SUV and MPV for the Indian as well as global markets. The company will introduce a micro SUV, codenamed Hyundai AX, which has been spotted multiple times in Korea. These are the latest spy images with less camouflage, revealing more design details.
If reports are to be believed, Hyundai will start test production of the micro SUV in April. In fact, the mass production is reportedly to start in September, 2021. The spy images reveal that the new model looks like a mini Venue, featuring boxy-shape. The micro SUV features dense radiator grille with mesh pattern, split headlamp set-up with turn indicator strip sits higher and the headlamp unit sits lower on the bumper, and round taillamps and a six-spoke design wheel.
The upcoming Hyundai AX meets the light car standard in Korea. The vehicle looks narrow; however, it looks significantly taller than the tall-boy hatchbacks like Chevrolet Spark. It has small bonnet and front look, while the overall styling is inspired by the Hyundai Venue and the large Palisade SUV.
The AX mini SUV has a flat bonnet and usable roof-rails, pronounced squared-off wheel arches with plastic cladding, ORVMs with integrated blinkers and shark fin antenna. The Hyundai AX has flatter side profile with stronger shoulder line, curved front window frame on the trailing edge, tight overhangs, C-pillar mounted door handles and raked windshield. The SUV has disc brakes at the front as well as the rear.
The new Hyundai mini SUV is expected to be based on the Santro’s platform, and could measure around 3.7 meters in length. The mini SUV is likely to feature a 1.1-litre petrol engine that produces around 67bhp of power and 100Nm of torque. Transmission choices might include 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox option.
The report claims that the new compact SUV will be produced at the Gwangju plant from September. The company aims to produce around 70,000 units annually. It is expected to cost around 8 million to 10 million won, which is around INR 5.30 lakh to INR 6.6 lakh.
