Some municipalities require you to have a permit in order to hold a garage sale. Make sure to check your city’s website for more information. Some may allow you to get the permit online. If your city or town does require a permit, make sure not to skip this step, or you could. Visit some area yard sales to get a feel for local pricing on different types of things. If most sellers price hardbound books at 50 cents to $1, yours won't sell at $3 each. If name-brand blue jeans typically sell for $2 in your neighborhood, marking yours at 25 cents per. From time to time you may find yourself needing to clean out the house. You may discover that you have more stuff than you care to own. One of the most common things to do with used stuff is to have a garage or yard sale. You gather all of your no longer wanted items, and price things based upon what you deem them to be worth. You set up your tables and racks in your yard or garage and before long you find yourself selling those unwanted things to would be bargain hunters.
Consider a Multi-Family Sale. Garage sales advertised as 'community yard sales,' 'neighborhood. Plan it at the right time. The right day and time is the first step in getting ready for a garage sale that.
Have you ever wondered though, if the money you take in is taxable income?

On any given weekend in the U.S. communities and neighborhood streets are filled with used clothing, furniture, knickknacks and other items. Rummage sales can be either a way to make a little cash or a way to de-clutter, or both. One thing is sure, it’s a popular method of doing second-hand sales.
Whether or not you have to pay taxes, of any sort, on monies earned through these garage, yard and rummage sales depends upon the purpose and method of your sale.
If your paid more for the item than the price in which you re-sell the item(s), then sales are not report-able as either income or for sales tax purposes. But it should be noted that losses on personally used items or property are not deductible either.
A Garage Sale Example
Let’s say you purchased a coffee maker for $49.99. For a couple of years you used that coffee maker each day to make your cup of joe. Then you decide to sell the coffee maker in favor of a more modern single brew station. You place the coffee maker in your garage sale for $10 and negotiate the sale down to $5. Essentially, you’ve sold your used item for less than the cost of your coffee pot. Therefore, you do not need to pay any income tax on the sale of the coffee pot because you haven’t earned a profit from the sale. Likewise, because the item was for your personal use you can’t claim a loss of profit because you as the consumer used the item.
An exception to this re-sale rule is when you purchase items at rummage, garage, yard or other types of sales with the intent and express purpose of re-selling the items at a higher amount than what you paid for the item. This type of selling isn’t about re-selling personally used items, but rather is intended to earn the seller a profit, small though it may be. The same is true regardless of where you sell the items, whether in your front yard, on the internet or at the local flea market.
The laws regarding sales tax vary from state to state and . It’s always a good idea to check with your state’s department of taxation as well as local ordinances regarding sales tax collection on goods sold at garage, yard, or rummage sales.

Jeanne D.Reliable and professional in every aspect of the contract – great job.
Ilana R.These guys did an excellent job on the sale. Very impressive work from this young group.
Lee W.Overall I had a very good experience with the company. It started off a little rough with the team showing up 4 hours late. But the team was efficient and carefully loaded the items. They even professionally disassembled the beds and kitchen table for loading. They decided that they didn’t want to load our garage refrigerator, because it would not sell and they would need to rearrange the truck some to make it fit. I said I had my doubts too, but that I wanted them to load it because otherwise I was going to have to pay another company to pick it up. They said they had already talked with their boss Vern and he told them they didn’t have to load it. I told them I was going to call Vern myself, and went in-side to make the call, and they quickly closed up the truck and took off!
It was quite a sight to see me running out of the house after the truck, and af-terwards my wife and I had a laugh about it once we learned the truck made it to the warehouse and they didn’t just drive to Mexico.
I had to call 1-800-Got-Junk to dispose of the garage refrigerator and paid them out of pocket.
The sale went well – I got regular updates of the progress and a detailed itemiza-tion of the price on each item. I discussed with the company President (Ben) what happened with my garage refrigerator and the late arrival. He said he ad-dressed with Vern and agreed to refund me most of the cost of disposing of the refrigerator.
So overall I was very pleased with the final result.
